America’s Cup racing will return to New York

America's Cup racing will return to New York City for the first time since 1920. The Big Apple is ready!

This is one of the most prestigious competitions in the world of sailing and this competition is back in New York City: one of the series of the 35th edition of the America’s Cup will take place on May 7-8, 2016 in New York. The America’s Cup racing return to New York for the first time since 1920!
Three first series took place in 2015 and 6 series are planned in 2016 with six catamarans. The ranking at the end of the series will determine the starting points score of the teams in the America’s Cup Qualifiers in 2017.

An American team

The competition welcomes the defending champion, Oracle Team USA, and its challengers, five teams from around the world including Team New Zealand, led by Peter Burling.
Oracle skipper Jimmy Spithill can wait: “The New York event is going to be spectacular. Racing on the lower Hudson River, in front of that Manhattan skyline, will be a huge hit. It’s going to be a great event for the America’s Cup and a great event for New York.”
And everything is already planned in New York to host the America’s Cup: the Event Village will be in the Brookfield Place Waterfront Plaza, at the foot of the World Trade Center, while the racing will be on the lower Hudson River off the Battery Park City Esplanade, between the Pier 25 basin and The Battery.
